A few months ago, in what now feels like an alternate reality - before we were worried about the health and safety of so many - we decided to phase out the production of our popular Ty Shower Curtain.
Those of you who have been following our work from the beginning will know that these curtains were our first product produced in our garage shop with a few basic tools in the middle of a recession. We wanted to make something useful that solved a different kind of health and safety issue - that of chemical off-gassing in the home.
This issue of toxicity is one that we are still committed to through all of our work. Our furniture, lighting, rugs and textiles all use natural materials and finishes that are safe for your home and family and are never ever treated with flame retardants or stain-resistant chemicals.
Our decision to phase out our Ty and Ty D.I.Y. Edition Shower Curtain is based on a number of factors from material sourcing to production. That said, the final decision came down to the kind of business we want to be as we enter this new decade. Over the past few years, we have found more pleasure and value in making made-to-order heirloom products such as furniture and rugs.
These pieces take longer to create but allow us to produce less overall while maintaining a super high level of craft and building long-lasting relationships with the clients who specify and live with our work.
We know that this news may be a bummer for many of you. We know how much this product fills a gap in the market and has become a staple in many of your homes. To help with this transition, we will be doing one last production run of curtains for anyone who wants to stock up. These will be available on our website now through April 15. Please note that our studio, as a non-essential business, is currently closed so we are asking for 4 - 6 weeks lead time. We will most likely run out of printed materials, so you may receive your curtain without the official product packaging.
