Huge thanks to everyone who stopped by our first solo booth at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair last week in New York. New pieces on display included Hitch, Hook, Bound Hand Mirror V2, Jaspe, Laguna and Comalapa as well as new mirror and hemp colors for Bound and a black manila option for Hung.

Above and below are a few images of our submission for the American Design Club's recent Raw + Unflitered show at Heller Gallery in New York. They are solid pewter trays constructed from a series of free form molten pours. To check out more from the show (it really was one of our favorites from Design Week) see the AmDC Facebook album.

Thanks Francie Latour and the crew at RISD XYZ for including our story in their thoughtful piece on making it in a tough economy. We especially liked seeing ourselves envisoned by illustrator and fellow RISD alum Lauren Nassef. Read the full article (page 20 - 31) here.

Above and below is the result of a rainy trip to Bloedel Reserve here on Bainbridge Island with our ever patient photographer Ben Blood, studio manager/model Claire Beaumont and a few of our new products.

The biggest and brightest news around here at Grain is that Claire Beaumont is back! Claire was our first intern ever and worked with us for over a year as a student. She recently graduated and we were lucky enough to convince her to come join us here at Grain as our first official employee. Claire has been working with us for over a month now and we don't know what we ever did without her. Read below to get to know her a bit more. Bienvenida Doña Clara!

If you are attending New York Design Week, you are not going to want to miss the eighth show put on by the American Design Club: Raw + Unfiltered.
We will have a specifically designed series on view with over 40 other works from designers such as Fort Standard, Evan Dublin, Stanley Ruiz, Ladies & Gentlemen Studio and Free Time Industries.
Raw + Unfiltered will open May 20th at 6:00 pm at the Heller Gallery, 420 West 14th Street in New York. To RSVP, email [email protected] or go to the AmDC Facebook page. If you can't make the opening, the show will be up until May 25th. Hope to see you there!

As part of our annual commitment, we made our 1% For The Planet donation yesterday. This year we decided to support the Surfrider Foundation.
The Surfrider Foundation was started almost 25 years ago with the mission to protect the "oceans, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network." They are currently working on campaigns in 15 countries - including six in our state of Washington.
Above is a photo from a few years ago of James at his secret surf spot near Ocean Shores, WA. We hope to spend much more time in the ocean this year. Thanks to everyone who supported us in 2011 for helping us make this donation possible!
