Climate Neutral Certified

This Earth Day, we're celebrating that we are officially Climate Neutral Certified!

We joined 215 brands in offsetting all of our 2020 carbon emissions by purchasing carbon credits to fund climate solutions and by committing to reduce our future emissions.

When thinking about how to mitigate our footprint, we were inspired to work with Climate Neutral because they are the leading consumer label designating carbon neutrality. As much as we want to believe that our individual actions have a positive impact, we know that working together with a collective would not only make this effort more meaningful but it would also make it more visible.

It is our belief that visibility has the potential to shift culture and eventually systems.

With this commitment, we are taking responsibility for all the emissions generated in the production, operations and shipping of our work (92 tonnes of carbon) by supporting five important projects: Clean cookstove use in Uganda, household biogas digesters in China, wind energy in North Dakota, landfill methane capture in Florida and electric vehicle infrastructure across the US.

This is part of an overarching idea that any action that keeps us presently focused on creating the world we want to live in is an action worth taking.

If you are climate solutions enthusiasts like us, you may have heard of the How to Save a Planet podcast. It is great for its lighthearted approach to climate conversations. Their recent episode, Is Your Carbon Footprint BS? is for sure a fun listen. Without giving it all away, they challenge listeners to think about their climate actions as a form of communication. They suggest that one of the most powerful things you can do is to talk to people “without being too annoying.”

One statistic mentioned in the episode is that only 10% of Americans are considered climate deniers - they just have a loud voice. According to Yale research, only about a third of Americans talk to friends and family (even occasionally) about the climate and the largest stated reason is that it “never comes up.”

We hope that by joining 215 brands through Climate Neutral to share our voice and collectively offset 669,150 tonnes of carbon (the equivalent of taking 145,527 cars off the road for a year) that we begin to move our small circle of influence towards their own climate actions.

It is true that the climate crisis is a math problem, but our actions in response are also a form of communication and we can all find our own way to participate in that.

Happy Spring! Happy Earth Day!
