Life Lived

12/17/2020

One of our greatest pleasures is seeing our work out in the world living a life that we could have never imagined ourselves. It is a reminder that putting things out into the world with intention and care does create a ripple effect.

For most of our projects, we work directly with architects and interior designers who carefully select and place our work in community with other objects to create an environment that becomes much more than the sum of its parts.

Our work gets thoughtfully installed and arranged then over time becomes a part of someone’s private life. The Marin County family room designed by Studio AHEAD (seen above) is grounded by our custom Duo Rug and is a perfect example of this process.

We imagine into the future that these works of furniture, lighting, rugs and textiles get passed down from grandparents to their grandchildren as much of our most meaningful belongings have. We imagine living room rugs that become nursery rugs of the future. We imagine dining tables that move to new homes and take up lives as desks for the homework of the next generation.

These images fill our head especially now as we navigate challenges within our own homes, businesses and families. They remind us that life can be long and stretch on beyond our own. Making things with intention and care, that are selected and placed with intention and care, that then get loved and maintained with that same intention and care, matters.

Slow and steady has always been a mantra for our studio and the work that we do. Patience can be frustrating for everyone, but it remains a good teacher.

As we move into the new year, it feels like some of our own patience is beginning to pay off as we physically move into our new studio and manufacturing shop. The process of locating our new space and the current renovations (huge thanks to James’s dad for being our volunteer construction manager) has not been without roadblocks, but we are thrilled to announce our new address in January.

We are ready for a fresh start in a space that over time will give us many of the things we have been envisioning for years - from the square footage and power that we need for our new equipment to make our work easier on our own bodies, to a dedicated finishing room on the same floor as our woodshop, to a sunny west facing parking lot with a basketball hoop planned for the future.

Thank you for following us along on this journey. We celebrated 12 years in business last month and could not have done it without your support. We're wishing you all a peaceful close to this monumental year with continued optimism as we look towards the future.
